Earning our Zippep’s Astro Circus Certificate

Today we earned our final ticket in Zippep’s Astro Circus… Ticket K which means to keep your personal information safe. Never give your real name, address or phone number to anyone you don’t know in the real world. Use a nickname in chat rooms or when playing games online.

So over the past weeks we have learnt about five safety rules when online… each ticket represented a letter which spelled the word T…H…I…N…K

Which is just another reminder to play it safe online and think before you do anything!

We finally got to enter the Big Top and claim our prize…. which were posters of the Zippep’s Astro Circus characters, as well as a certificate for all our hard work.

Well done Grade One on being official cybersafety CHAMPIONS!!!

Earning Ticket ‘I’ and Ticket ‘N”

This week were lucky enough to earn two tickets to Zippep’s Big Top.

Ticket ‘I’ was all about interesting websites and how they can be fun.

But it is always a good idea to check with Mum, Dad or someone from your Trust Club if a site is ok before you visit.

Ticket ‘N’ taught us that name calling or being mean online isn’t cool and could be cyberbullying… Be nice when talking online or on the phone.

Remember to look out for yourself and others.

We are all getting very excited as there is only one ticket left to get!!!

Zippep’s Astro Circus… Getting our second ticket.

This week in Zippep’s Astro Circus we needed to earn our second ticket ‘H‘.

H‘ – stands for hide your password. Only ever share it with members of your Trust Club – never with your friends. Someone else could go online pretending to be you and do something that could get you into trouble.

We talked about keeping our passwords a secret ‘ssh‘ and not telling our friends. We played a game on Zippep’s Astro Circus to help us recognise who was in our Trust Club, who we could trust and who couldn’t be trusted.

So now we have two tickets and are getting closer to getting inside the Big Top 🙂

Zippep’s Astro Circus – Trust Clubs

Today we talked about the people in our lives who we could trust to keep us safe and smart when we go online.  We discussed the meaning of trust and the different people who we felt safe and comfortable with. After this discussion we came up with a collective list of people who we could trust.  These people included adults like Mum and Dad, teachers, grandparents and police officers. We then completed an individual ‘Trust Club’.  The members of our Trust Club had to include people we trusted to keep us safe.  People who we can talk to if we feel sad or worried.  These are people we should talk to about the things that happen online as well as in other parts of our lives.

Roll up, roll up, roll up!!

This term we are focusing on being safe and smart when using the internet.  With the internet playing such an important role in our everyday lives it is important that we prepare our grade twos for the online world. To help our students understand the importance of cybersafety we are using an educational resource initiated by the Australian Government called Cybersmart. It offers a fun and interactive program called Zippep’s Astro Circus which is specifically designed for young children.  Zippep and his circus friends reinforce the concept of computer security through a series of games and activities.

After brainstorming all the ways in which our grade ones use the internet at home it is evident that there is a need for us to teach our children how to be safe and smart online.

We are condfident that the information and knowledge the children will gain from this program will be a valuable guide as they begin their digital journey.  You will be able to follow our progress with Zippep right here on our blog each week.
