Roll up, roll up, roll up!!

This term we are focusing on being safe and smart when using the internet.  With the internet playing such an important role in our everyday lives it is important that we prepare our grade twos for the online world. To help our students understand the importance of cybersafety we are using an educational resource initiated by the Australian Government called Cybersmart. It offers a fun and interactive program called Zippep’s Astro Circus which is specifically designed for young children.  Zippep and his circus friends reinforce the concept of computer security through a series of games and activities.

After brainstorming all the ways in which our grade ones use the internet at home it is evident that there is a need for us to teach our children how to be safe and smart online.

We are condfident that the information and knowledge the children will gain from this program will be a valuable guide as they begin their digital journey.  You will be able to follow our progress with Zippep right here on our blog each week.

Welcome To Grade One Information Literacy 2013

Welcome to our Grade Ones for 2013.  This year, your Info Lit teachers will be Mrs Brough and Mrs McKee.

We are very excited to be teaching you all and we look forward to a year filled with books, craft and lots of learning on the iPads.

It was great to meet you all today.  We read the first book in our author study for Term One.  We will be enjoying stories from the very talented author/illustrator Nick Bland.  He has written many very entertaining books, including “The Runaway Hug” which won the CBCA Early Childhood Book of the Year Award last year.

Today we read “The Wrong Book.”  Nicholas Ickle is trying to tell a story, but he keeps getting interrupted by characters from other stories – a pirate, a queen, even some monsters!  To get a chance to tell his story, he has to convince the others that they are in the wrong book.

This was a very funny book, despite the fact that Nicholas Ickle was not enjoying himself!  We liked that there were two stories happening.  Did you see the other story in the pictures?
